Testosterone Propionate , a type of testosterone ester, is an anabolic steroid and is popular among bodybuilders and athletes. Compared to other esters , it is much shorter and releases more quickly into the blood vessels. It takes your body very little amount of time to get rid of the ester part and release testosterone into the body. It is sold under the trade name of Testovis, Testolic, Propitrex, Test-Prop 100, Test-Propionate

How does it work?

After testosterone propionate enters the bloodstream, enzymes start breaking the bond between testosterone and the ester part. At the end, free testosterone is left in the body. This free testosterone has a half-life of approximately 2-4 hours but with propionate ester bounded to it, half-life extends to about 4-5 days.   

Testosterone promotes retention of nitrogen in the body. More the nitrogen the muscle can hold, the more protein it can store. With more protein, the muscle expands in size.

Testosterone also improves the level of IGF-1 in the body which coordinates growth and metabolism.

How to use?

A common dosage routine can be:

• 50 to 150 mg every day
• 50 to 150 mg every second day

To get proper results, it should be injected every alternate day as it has a very short half-life. According to a study done, a dose of 600 mg a week produced better results as compared to those who had a lower dose. Maximum muscle growth and fat loss can be seen with this dose. A gain of 15 percent in Lean Body Mass can be seen with 600 mg per week of testosterone propionate continued for 20 weeks.

It can be injected in any big muscle like buttocks, shoulder or triceps. It should never be injected in a vein.

Beginners may find frequent injections not so comfortable to deal with. But a dose of 100 mg every third day will not make much sense and you will not get full benefit of the steroid. New users can ask the doctor to try rotating injection sites to make it less painful.

Anti-estrogens might be needed if there is excess conversion of testosterone to estrogen depending on the dose taken. Post-cycle therapy is also advised to maintain the hormonal balance in the body.

Benefits

After the first injection, an immediate surge of strength can be felt as testosterone is rapidly absorbed by the bloodstream. Testosterone propionate does not retain water in the body or does so in a very limited quantity. Thus, it does not produce a rapid spike in lean body mass, for instance 5-6 kg in two weeks.

As it is to be taken almost daily, cost factor can also be counted as a disadvantage. It is expensive as compared to other similar steroids.

Female users

Owing to its high androgynous activity, testosterone propionate is not recommended for women. It can cause severe virilisation effects, which means development of male traits in female body. It can include deepening of voice, excess body hair etc.
